Nursing homes in Palm Beach County and Boca Raton still remained an area of focus even as the total number of coronavirus cases in Florida was in decline for several weeks.
Both Palm Beach County and the state of Florida have had less than 5% of all residents and workers testing positive for the first time in several months. There had been over two weeks where less than 400 total cases were reported throughout all of Palm Beach County as well. Despite this positive news, there are still people dying or becoming very ill in facilities in the Boca Raton area. Deaths among people under the age of 60 still remained quite rare in Florida. Almost all people who died in Palm Beach County were between the ages of 66 and 103.
Nursing homes account for plurality of all coronavirus deaths
About 42% of all deaths related to the coronavirus in Florida happened inside of nursing homes and similar assisted living facilities. This includes both residents and employees of the facilities. There were 16 facilities in Palm Beach County that had reported at least 10 pandemic related deaths according to the state’s department of health. There were 71 facilities in the county that had only recorded 9 deaths or less. Jupiter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center had the worst record in the area during the week of the report, as five deaths were recorded even among dwindling case numbers. Another facility further south in the state in Hialeah in Miami Dade County had also performed poorly during this time and recorded the most deaths in that county.
Finding financial assistance after someone has died while under the care of a nursing home
When someone loses a family member who was previously staying at a nursing home, aside from the emotional impact, financial losses are usually the most important concern. Funeral and burial arrangements must be made, and various other financial matters related to end of life issues need to be addressed.
Life insurance policies and other types of insurance may be insufficient to cover all of the losses related to a sudden death or a family member, and further legal action may be necessary.
Lawyers who dedicate their practice to assisting people after various kinds of injuries and accidents can speak with you. A civil lawsuit is often the only remedy that will pay out enough money to cover all of a family’s financial problems after a sudden death.
